Configuration & Settings

SearchJet offers a range of settings to control how search behaves on your site. Configure these under SearchJet Settings in your WordPress admin.

Search Behavior

  • Instant Results: Show results as the user types. Enable this for the best experience. Disable if you want a traditional search page.
  • Debounce Time: Delay before searching after the user stops typing. Recommended: 300ms. Lower values feel faster but use more API calls.
  • Minimum Characters: Require at least 2-3 characters before showing results. Prevents accidental searches on single keystrokes.
  • Results Limit: Maximum results to show in the dropdown. Default is 8. Increase if your site has many content types.

Display Settings

  • Theme Colors: Auto-detect from your theme or set custom colors for the search bar and dropdown.
  • Result Layout: Choose between compact (title and excerpt) or detailed (title, excerpt, category, reading time).
  • Mobile Behavior: Full-screen search overlay on mobile for better usability on small screens.

Content Indexing

  • Content Types: Choose which post types to index (posts, pages, products, custom types).
  • Custom Fields: Enable ACF, Toolset, or JetEngine fields for indexed content.
  • Taxonomies: Index categories, tags, and custom taxonomies for filtered search.
  • Reindex: Trigger a full reindex after making changes to content or index settings.
