How SearchJet Works: Enterprise Search Infrastructure Technical Deep Dive
SearchJet transforms your content into a fast, intelligent search experience in three simple steps. Understanding this process helps you configure and optimize your search effectively.
Step 1: Indexing Your Content
When you install SearchJet and connect your API key, the indexing process begins automatically. SearchJet scans your WordPress database and creates a search-optimized index of all your content.
The index includes:
- Post and page titles, content, and excerpts
- Categories and tags
- Custom fields from ACF, Toolset, or JetEngine
- WooCommerce products, SKUs, attributes, and prices
- Custom post types and taxonomy terms
Indexing runs on SearchJet servers, not yours. Your WordPress site performance is unaffected. For most sites with up to 5,000 posts, indexing completes in 2-5 minutes.
Step 2: Processing Searches
When a visitor types a query, the SearchJet widget sends the request to our servers. The AI engine processes the query in under 200ms, applying typo tolerance, synonym matching, and relevance ranking.
The engine considers multiple factors when ranking results: keyword relevance, content freshness, popularity signals, and user engagement data. This means the best results always appear first.
Step 3: Displaying Results
Results appear instantly in a dropdown below the search bar. Each result shows the title, excerpt, category, and relevant metadata. Visitors can click any result to go directly to that page.
The search widget automatically matches your theme colors and layout. No CSS customization is needed for most sites. For advanced control, you can customize the appearance under SearchJet Settings.
Continuous Improvement
SearchJet learns from every search. As visitors search and click results, the AI engine improves its ranking algorithm. Popular content gets boosted, zero-result queries are flagged, and your search gets smarter over time without any manual configuration.
